Douwe Egberts have brought out a new gourmet range of ground coffee and have asked me, as a coffee lover, if I would like to try a few samples. There are six new ground varieties which offer a selection for everyone from strengths 3 to 6 and also a decaff. The coffee is suitable for both the cafetiere and filter machine.
I have had both good and poor ground coffee in the past, and if the new Douwe Egberts ground coffees are to be called gourmet then you can't help but have high expectations. These can confidently be served on any occasion and any time of the day and I really enjoyed them.
Cafe Milano - Strength 3 - an Italian style coffee with a smooth taste and a hint of spice, and is a coffee that can be served any time of the day.
House Blend - Strength 3 - an every day full bodied coffee without any trace of bitterness and I would also serve this at any time of the day.
Time Together - Strength 4 - for those who prefer their coffee strong and is described as a spicy blend with a hint of vanilla and nut, I liked this as an after dinner coffee.
The cafetiere seems to be making a comeback, and I have seen a few coffee shops offering this option. After a meal, either at a restaurant or home, coffee from a cafetiere just can't be beaten.
A fascinating fact: Douwe Egberts are the second largest roaster of coffee in the world and have over 250 years' experience in blending and roasting.
Available in a 200g foil bag RRSP £3.14 - and they make instant coffee too.
Thank you Scarlett and Douwe Egberts.
