Did anyone manage to get to Best of Britannia recently? If not, then here is the low down, especially for you. Tucked into an exposed brick East End warehouse, this was a showcase of British products and an opportunity to hear the stories of some of the more fashionable brands out there.

Amongst the sea of tweed jackets, hip bicycles and vintage light shades were a healthy representation of the latest independent traders of British food and drink. Nyetimber were present selling some of their finest English sparkling wines and in the outside area you could catch a band whilst munching on a lobster roll from Bob's Lobster.

Harry Brompton's London Ice Tea

Something which did catch my eye was Harry Brompton’s London Ice Tea. Made from Kenyan tea with a hint of citrus, this lightly sparkling drink at 4% ABV was certainly a first for me. Although I found the combination a little perplexing before I tried it - it worked beautifully! The drink reminded me slightly of dandelion and burdock and smacked of summer in a bottle.

This drink has been positioned as a premium product and with the more discerning tastes we’re seeing in tea currently (check out Good & Proper Tea as an example), this could well be a drink which will tip next year.

Eat Pizza, Drink San Pellegrino, Love Taste of London!

Pizza making masterclass with the Pizza Pilgrims

Kitchen Delights London Reporter gets to make pizza and drink San Pellegrino.......

For all of us foodies, there’s only one pilgrimage you’re likely to see us on this year - and that’s to the annual Taste of London festival, Regent’s Park.

I visited Taste as a guest of San Pellegrino and sipped on their sparkling fruit juices in a Sicilian inspired Orangery whilst enjoying some pretty awesome pizzas.

Thom and James, otherwise known as the Pizza Pilgrims, were also in the Orangery demonstrating how to make a tasty pizza the Italian way.

They showed us how to knead the dough and give it an adventurous toss in the air. Afterwards, you simply grace it with a smooth dollop of tomato, very little cheese and a generous handful of basil. It’s then ready to go into a pizza oven - harbouring an intense heat of 500 degrees.

As the pizza cooks in an impressive 45 seconds, there are two things to keep an eye on. The first is to achieve ‘leoparding’ – which means getting some brown charcoal spots on the pizza base by occasionally moving the pizza on the oven floor.  Next, in order to give it some extra depth of character you might also want to try some doming, which is where you lift the pizza towards the fire in order to gain more sizzle on top.

Finally serve in a pizza box with a can of San Pellegrino Limonata, close your eyes and chillax!

If you live in London, every Friday night until the end of July London Zoo is now open especially for us grown-ups and it’s a fantastic chance to get up close and personal with the animals and enjoy a glass of wine. You might even see a Sumatran tiger or two like I did in the new tiger territory exhibit.

Bordeaux wines is located in the rather exclusive Bordeaux Jardin du Vin and provided a short and sweet tasting of some easy drinking white and rose wines (excellent for the few hours sunshine we had). Afterwards, it was time to explore the international street festival, sampling a variety of cuisines from fresh Thai street cooking to hot pork rolls – foodie heaven!

I was a guest of Bordeaux wines who recently took over London Zoo with a wine tasting event - treating us to some of their favourite wines from Bordeaux.

Ice Cream Soda - A Bit of Nostalgia

You wouldn't readily think 'lets have an ice cream soda' but back in the day we used to visit a fabulous Italian ice cream parlour, we bought one ice cream soda between us and would always ask for a couple of straws and spoons. This wasn't because we were mean but based on trying to save enough money to get married and buy a house. The courtship was 15 months in total and I hadn't even reached my 21st birthday when we married.......on Cup Final Day! Hence two straws and two spoons.......happy days.

We have always made ice cream soda by placing a scoop of ice cream in the base of a tall glass and pouring over a can of cream soda, the ice cream floats and the cream soda creates a lovely frothy top. The Ben Shaws website recommend using a dash of grenadine syrup but I doubt we had even heard of 'grenadine syrup' in those days. I used Mackie's Traditional Ice Cream but there are lots of fun variations. Further information for ice cream soda and ice cream floats can be found on Wikipedia.

These fabulous take out mugs look far trendier than the usual disposable coffee shop cup.  The mug has double wall insulation and holds 355ml of either hot or cold liquid. There is a band around the middle for one hand easy grip and the mug is both leak proof and spill resistant.

The lid is very clever and has an autoseal button to ensure there aren't any unexpected spillages.  All you have to do is press the lilac button to sip and release to seal. The mechanism on the underside of the lid is extremely well made and easy to clean. All parts are dishwasher proof too.

My local coffee shop are more than happy to fill transportable mugs, or simply fill the mug at home with a hot or cold drink.

The mug doesn't leak or spill and looks 100% more attractive than a disposable take out cup.

Cawston Press produce a wonderful range of sparkling non-alcoholic drinks especially for adults. They are packed full of flavour and made from their own pressed juice (not concentrate).  The drinks are additive, colouring, preservative and artificial sweetener free. They have now launched their first sparkling drinks, Sparkling Apple and Sparkling Apple Ginger Beer. Sparkling Apple Ginger Beer was our favourite, it is quite fiery and definitely one to be enjoyed by adults.  Sparkling Apple will be appreciated by both adults and children.

Apple & Rhubarb, sweet and sharp from blended apples, and sour from rhubarb, this is a perfect combination of flavours. Cloudy Apple, their Original Signature Blend, is a winner and very refreshing. Apple & Ginger is a warming drink for the autumnal months, and this proved to be a firm favourite of ours. Apple & Elderflower has a subtle hint of elderflower coming through and is the perfect summer drink.

We poured the drinks over ice or served them chilled, either way they are absolutely delicious.

Reassuringly, the juices within the cartons are not made from concentrate but are gently pasteurised blended juices. These cartons aren't in the chiller cabinet at your local supermarket, but can be found in the ambient aisle, they can be stored unopened at room temperature. The cartons need to be stored in the fridge either to chill them down, or after opening. They come in Tetra Pak cartons and can be recycled too.
