Many of us are familiar with Horace Kephart from his book Camping and Woodcraft. It is a good source of information of camping and traveling techniques from the early 1900s. Kephart lived a part of his life in the Great Smoky Mountains region in North Carolina, where he took extensive photographs of the local inhabitants and their way of life. Here are three photographs of Kephart himself, two in his cabin and one of him camping:
They show a brief glimpse of the life he was writing about, and supplement his well know writings.
