Tree Identification: Beech Tree

I am in no way an expert on tree and plant identification. In fact, I am very bad at it. If you ever notice that I am posting something that is incorrect, please let me know. I just wanted to show you this picture of a beech tree.

Young beech trees can sometimes resemble birch trees, at least they do to me. At least in certain species, the larger trees acquire bark that looks quite differently from the younger variants. Here you can see an old tree with a young offshoot.

This is a dead leaf from the tree.

It resembles the leaf of a birch or hickory tree. You have to look at the details and distribution to tell one from the other.
